No way starting. MAYBE out of the pen. But I doubt it.

I expect them to stretch him out at Norfolk. Wright and/or Wilson can cover Chen's missed start.

Don't forget Gonzalez is missing another start, so another starter will be needed in addition to Wright. Wilson makes sense if we don't have to use him in relief the next couple days. Could see Davies or Gamboa called up for a spot start.

Please for the love of all that is good do NOT start Gausman up here until he gets some innings under him and proves that he belongs? He needs to work on his secondary pitches. He was a mess when he was up here. Very hittable.

Maybe it will be a Gausman/Wilson piggy back situation (three to four innings each).

How about we let him string together a month+ of great results with improvement on his secondary pitches and showing he can go deep into games without allowing every hitter under the sun to foul off a million pitches?

If it was up to some of the posters here, we'd never let Gausman have a chance and just have him rot in the bullpen or minors forever. You don't get better by not letting a pitcher pitch

Well, you also don't get better by yo-yoing a pitcher up and down, rushing him to the majors, throwing him in the bullpen when he wasn't groomed as one...and now thrusting him into the rotation (possibly) without proving he's healthy/ready to go deep into ballgames. Oh, and not getting his secondary pitches ready for prime time. You can't get by with what he was throwing last year. At least not to the potential he should be at. And you can't practice your secondary pitches at the major league level or they end up in the stands.

You dont have to groom a pitcher to pitch out of the bullpen.

Many a SP, has pitched in relief roles, until a SP slot opened up.

Many of the best pitchers in baseball struggle early on in their careers... but teams keep them in the rotation because of their potential and theres no way to get better like facing major league competition. Not letting Gausman play against good competition and just bouncing him all around is NOT good for his development. Just stick him in the rotation rest of the year and what happens happens.
